Patients that are being admitted into the acute geriatric wards are intended for a brief stay at the ward for one reason or the other, ranging from surgery, hip injury, accidents and certain other ailments that require immediate medical attention.
Falls are often recorded in many long term care facilities and may as well require patients be transferred to an acute medical ward. However, in the acute wards, falls and similar accidents due to frail limbs is also possible.
Patients (seniors) that are admitted to the acute geriatrics come either direct from their homes, or from other long term care organisation. Do they often go back to their homes or are from the acute geriatrics transferred to a long term care facility.
