The management of falls in older adults, either in their private homes or in an (nursing home) institution has many factors that may be taken into consideration for it to be effective.

Falls have been recognised as a common and serious problems for older adults. Falls also account for many but avoidable injuries and deaths.

Some measures like using bed grids and or fixation to wheelchairs may be termed restriction, which again may be seen as an art and act of violence.

Many other factors may also be responsible for falls, like gait, changes in mobility, loss of balance, sensation, coordination and the like, just to mention a few. There may also be possibility of polypharmacy playing roles as well.

Fall protocols are usually recorded and investigated upon, so that future falls be prevented.
