Teacher formation should be the most focused initiative in research bearing in mind the central role they play in education and the building of human nature. Teachers are known to be humane, diligent and over-bearing. A research into how to improve on their lot indirectly enhances the development of the society. The real power benefits of the gifted resides in their ability to get into full relationship with what the teacher is willing to provide for them, through research. The major research design should concentrate on how best to en-broaden teachers' horizon on improving education standards.

Paulo Freire would simply say yes and move to the next question.  Knowing that all education is political and quite possibly (although I claim education is) socially reproductive of course we are neglecting the vast majority of children. Is it a surprise to find in K-12 educational systems a rigid set of guide lines and subject matters to be covered is one of the requirements for governmental funding?

I also would draw your attention to the use of the word gifted and less gifted. By less gifted I am assuming you mean the child who struggles but works hard and caries a solid 3.0 GPA. By gifted you are meaning the child who has all the social benefits such as wealth, home, books at home, and seems to get the concepts taught relatively easy. I am wondering however what label is used to describe the students who do nor fit into the above mentioned categories? What label is used for the poor, the intellectually challenged, the child with many absences do to working to support his family?

Last, While Mr Uchenna is correct when he points out the power the gifted have but I am in disagreement when he writes "The real power benefits of the gifted resides in their ability to get into full relationship with what the teacher is willing to provide for them". No sir the real power the gifted have is food, shelter, clean water, two parents, a library at home, computer, internet access, and a powerful political connections in which to use if not happy. That is the power the gifted have, and a full belly with the power of politics behind them is it no wounder how educational systems are designed?

Teacher bias is a problem and if standards are not in place there biases are a major stumbling block in the advancement of an educated citizenship. But this alone is not enough to reproduce the literacy rates found all over North and South America.

As Freire once stated, "it is only when the teacher is willing to be the student and the student is empowered enough to be the teacher a true transformation has taken place aand both have become learners.

It is very interesting contribution Douglas, when we remember the sense of authentic teaching that Freire. We are trying to work cooperatively in teacher training. Precursamos project teaching, where the gifted child takes an important role the student group. In this methodological point, the teacher will be to learn from their students and these will be teachers, possibly led by the most gifted subject.

Going on with my last answer, I propose discuss the following three points. If it is interesting I could go further with this topics.

The development of a theoretical focus in research has led to the posing of questions such as the following:

1) What is the role of a theory in the didactics of mathematics?

2) How can a teacher obtain some benefit from learning theories of the didactics of mathematics or research methods used in the didactics of mathematics?

3) To what extent are research results relevant for conditions in the real world? To what extent are they useful for teachers in their day-to-day activities in the classroom?

Dear Jose,

In your contemplation of a theory for the teaching of a systematic approach (didactic) of learning mathematics may I suggest constructivism. This theory of learning or how a student constructs knowledge is, I would think, foundational to ones learning of  mathematics. 

As to the second question I would argue it is important that teachers understand how theory plays a vital role in shaping not only one pedagogy but the logic behind the methodologies chosen for the teaching of mathematics. The benefit for teachers is the understanding of how students learn and create their knowledge and understandings. With this knowledge teachers gain a clear understanding of how there teaching methods, lesson plans, and unit plans all fit together as the student progresses through the educational system.

Third as to the relevance of teachers day to day work I again would suggest that from teachers knowledge of the learning theory behind the design of the curriculum there understanding of the connection between the fourth grade assignments to later on down the road when they enter the sixth grade will be a most valuable asset to have and use. Coordination between teachers will increase as well as communication. Teachers will be able to pass information as to each students individual needs and where each child's strengths and weaknesses are.

Education must be egalitarian rather than elite, any disenfranchisement of  minorities in any sense, political social religious and psychological ,is against the human values and rights which are the epicenter of Eduction.  However, much to the chagrin and frustration of  disadvantaged part of the society,  favouritism, nepotism, suppression, and  injustice are  the dominant issues afflicting the current educational settings.

Which of the principles of environmental sustainability, risk, social accountability college ... it is fulfilled when we dictate what we should investigate?

Well, first of all I apologize for taking so long without attending to this space. The forced confinement of the entire Spanish university since March 15 has drowned us in multiple novel tasks.

i didn't get exactly your question. What are you talking education? Or purpose of education? or objective of education? precisely as far as i know education is not against anything it against education itself, it tells us how uneducated once we get education. the wits make us perplex and make us realize lots of things atre left to know.

I think that gifted students are a real wealth, and the educational authorities should discover and diagnose them early and train them in scientific research skills because they have the ability to solve the problems of present and future society.
