Dear Researchers,

I am currently writing my PhD thesis. I feel confused during using the right pronoun in my thesis. In scientific papers (in case of multiple authors), we usually use ‘we’ to address all authors such as “we performed the experiment…”

I understand that the PhD thesis is basically the summary and combination of experiments which includes papers already published or going to be published.

In PhD thesis, the PhD candidate is the only author. In this case, what should be the proper pronoun ‘I’ or ‘we’? I saw many people use passive sentences to avoid this.

Thank you in advance for your help.

With Kind Regards

Zahir
