Research is not a monetarily rewarding field, not unless you're in that 1%, and unfortunately, we can't get by on good-will and happy thoughts alone.
Daily pressures would involve:
- personal finances
- grant applications
- taxes
- debt and mortgage
- reminding (convincing) oneself that science and service are more important than any bank balance!
And of course the pressures of work - patents, manuscripts, overdue work, all that backlog to catch up on - so much to read! But this kind of pressure is what fuels a scientist and pushes the investigator to be better. This is kind of pressure is a privilege.
A scientific research is a tedious task from the beginning till reaching the target. A researcher in never setting in the comfort zone. Always research problems are going back and forth, and the researcher must be ready to drill in and solve them. So stress is always there until the publication of your findings and getting the feedback from others.
