I know that Schneider PLCs work with Mod-bus protocol for networking, however, I wonder if there is any other PLC and industrial automation brands that work with mod-bus?
If two brands work on the same network protocol like mod-bus are they compatible? I mean can I design an industrial automation with devices from more than 1 brand? Like choosing actuator from one brands and PLC from other brands.
In case of using two different devices i.e. from two different producers with a communication interface e.g. RS485 (2 wire or 4 wire) and with ModBus on their boards e.g. ModbusRTU you can build a Master-Slave network and exchange and information between Master and Slave stations. Generally it isn't an easy task from implementation point of view. In case of using GE PLC a programmer should implement a sequential algorithm : Init connection, Transaction (read/write), End Connection. In practice it is much more difficult.
