I'm using the GeneJet RNA extraction kit for plants. I'm following the protocol step by step, but at the end of the extraction I get a yield of 50 ng/uL with a 260/280 >1.85 and 260/230
your low 260/230 values are most likely due to he presence of chaotrophic salts - to be precise most likely due to the presence of guanidine hydrochloride which is componen tof the GeneJet RNA extraction kit for plants ( what is normal for those kind of kit).
However, the amounts present of these chaotrophic salts after extraction should normally not be enough to interfere with down-stream applications like RT-PCR (please see the qiagene newsletter on page 7: file:///C:/Users/Kesper/Downloads/1061749_nlgef_issu15_310_lr.pdf) here this effect is nicely described.
My recommendation is:
control your RNA on a gel to see if you have a good quality DNA and if the integrity is fine go ahead with your experiment. Don't worry about the low A260/A230 ratio - this is a known problem with these kits.
