Sierra Leone, a small West African country depends on thermal power generation for over 50% of its energy needs. The major thermal power plant located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean generates a huge amount of marine waste and is challenged by meeting donor agency requirements to conducts its operations in an environmentally friendly manner. However, as a developing country, its challenged by the lack of appropriate technologies to handle environmental pollution issues. Currently, marine oil waste is collected and bio-degraded or recycled as the most appropriate remedial measure.
