Good evening. I am trying to identify other current instructional models that are research based regarding identifying learner types and approaches on how to reach every student other than those strictly associated with the works of Dr. Howard Gardner, Ph.D.?
Dr. Gardner's works were pivotal for my dissertation but I am also trying to ensure my students look for ideas in the construction of knowledge in Mathematics not necessarily concentrated purely upon the notion of Constructivism.
The goal is to encourage the students whom I teach to do research and discover for themselves the roles of scholars, and not just a teacher who may teach by the older model of "Sage on the Stage".
I am not sure if this is appropriate for you but I found that case studies were a useful resource for students to use critical thinking. For instance, a case study of childbed fever introduced students to research methods and the prejudice in science as to the investigator (minor point and still intersting). Other cases that I used were focused on IRB's and ethical principles for conducting research. The Center for Case Study Teaching in Sciences is the resource. There is also the National Institute of Statistical Science but I have not explored that site as to case studies.
