Will technological development, self-malting and robotization, IT, artificial intelligence, machine learning increase unemployment in the future?
At present, the economies of developed countries are entering the period of the fourth technological revolution known as Industry 4.0.The previous three technological revolutions: 1. The industrial revolution of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, determined mainly by the industrial application of the invention of a steam engine. 2. Electricity era of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. 3. The IT revolution of the second half of the twentieth century determined by computerization, computerization, the widespread use of the Internet and the beginning of the development of robotization.The current fourth technological revolution, known as Industry 4.0, is motivated by the development of the following factors:- artificial intelligence,- cloud computing,- machine learning,- Big Data database technologies,- Internet of Things.In every previous technological revolution, the same question was repeated many times. However, economies developed and changed structurally and labor markets returned to balance. Periodically, short-term economic crises appeared, but their negative economic effects, such as falling income and rising unemployment, were quickly reduced by active state intervention.It seems to me that self-malting and robotization, IT, artificial intelligence, learning machines will change the labor markets, but this does not necessarily mean a large increase in unemployment. New professions, occupations, specialties in these areas of knowledge and technology will be created. Industry 4.0 is likely to have a great impact on the labour market. In the first place, it will bring a large improvement in productivity and competitiveness and the progress achieved in robotics will enable machines to perform routine tasks leading to a substantial increase in unemployment. However, the economic systems will possibly react to this new situation with the creation of new job opportunities for highly skilled and versatile workers. The new economic model which will be based on innovation, technology and skilled training would then lead to the creation of high quality employment and the challenge will be to make this model sustainable.
It is very hard at present for those of us currently teaching at universities to know precisely the kind of jobs that the labour market will require and we may be totally off course with what we are teaching now. Nevertheless, an education based on STEM and considering also the need for managerial skills is likely to be more successful than rigid educational plans which prepare students for a specific profession. In any case, a strategy to prepare for the future labor needs is required and that has to receive the support of public and private institutions and the involvement of government.

The production order that used to be used for days can now be implemented within a few hours since it requires only one person to be executed anywhere in the world.
