From my point of view, most literature is suggesting a transformational leadership style, because knowledge sharing and collaborative working is crucial. From a practical this is necessary because organisational processes are not fully developed or even not exist in that life cycle stage of the company.
This is inline with Ensely et al. (2006) who argue that most start-up's having a shared leadership style.
