After conducting a study on self-consciousness (emerging cognitive ability), and knowing the coexistence of unconscious neuronal activity, I have the problem of knowing the neuropsychological relationship that can exist between both cognitive processes.
Sigmund Freud described the two levels of mind, the conscious level and the unconscious level; at his beginnings Freud wanted to find out where in brain are located all the mind processes, but he couldn't, so he devoted all his efforts and his great intelligence to study mind. Now we know both mind levels are located in brain, but in different cortex areas, conscious mind level in the five primary reception areas, 1, 17 41, 24 and 25; unconscious mind level is located in the frontal lobe, (impulses and instincts) which coordinates the information stored in the association cortex areas like 5, 7, 19, 21, 22. Every mind process happen in brain, in term of binary codes which are generated by neural cells in every synaptic union, in this way brain functions as a digital system instead of an analogue one. When I did the study on self-consciousness within a broad interdisciplinarity, I had to take into account all the sciences related to behavior.

With these principles I made the analysis of self-consciousness, arriving at the conclusion that it is an emergent cognitive process. The self-conscious behaviors appear from the functional coordination of the evolutionary increase of the brain, the development of the central consciousness or of the self (causal and social cognition), social creation of an autobiographical awareness and language development. As a result of the common functioning of several cognitive abilities, its activity requires multiple areas of the cerebral cortex (of both hemispheres). However, only the hemisphere where the language is located (almost always the left) is essential. If the conditions for the modern development of consciousness (self-consciousness) were not given, the brain would continue to function unconsciously.
Perhaps this is the origin of the psychological advances of Sigmund Freud. The unconscious would be the basic functioning of the brain evolved in the genus Homo, while the conscious would be the functional result of the aforementioned cognitive processes.
In our modern societies, both operate at the same time. My question would be what might be their characteristics of functional relationship between the two and how one might try to analyze them under this evolutionary perspective.
