12 March 2017 3 9K Report

I am trying to synthesize NaNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 material. I used sol-gel method maintaining pH of 10 and citric acid as chelating agent. I used sodium acetate, manganese acetate, cobalt acetate and nickel acetate as my precursors.

After kind of gel formation  i have to heat it to 400 deg.C to remove all the organic residuals present in it. The heat treatment was given at 4 deg.C/min  to 400 deg.C and kept 4 hours at 400 deg.C. After bringing to room temperature the sample looked like the attached fig. It looks like erruption of powder in the middle as you can see in the fig. The powder nature is puffy.

What might be the reason for it? Kindly share your opinion for it.

Thank you all very much for reading and giving your time.
