I do not know how you computed the p-value but I would strongly recommend nonparametric a Mann-Whitney U-test (instead of a t-test). What is the mean absolute difference between the ISQ-scores in the two groups? Even if the difference was statistically significant, it may not be clinically significant in magnitude, however, it is difficult to say how much ISQ-difference is actually important...
Thanks for answering. We used t-test to calculate it. The mean ISQ value for implants supported on mandibular ramus (17 implants) graft was 75 while those supported by calvarial (24 implants) grafts was 70. We have also studied the impact that might have the diameter of those implants upon ISQ value. However, it did not seem to be statistically significant, at least on implants placed over intramembranous block grafts.
I would not interpret 5 ISQ-points as clinically significant difference (and I suppose the p-value of a Man-Whitney U test would be even higher...)

Thanks again. Yours was very value bale and helpful for us, definitely a well-conducted meta-analysis and thus it clarify the current status of short implants. Now we are working on the influence of implant diameter for short implants bearing in mind all the variables that might affect the result. Preliminary results show not having an influence on survival rates. However, further studies are required to be provide conclusive results.
Well, I would discuss this question from anatomical point of view. The ratio of compact bone to that of spongy bone in ramus block graft may be different from that of calvaria block grafts. This might affect the ISQ of dental implants.This if we exclude the accuracy of statistical analysis used.
This subject must be taken from the embryonic point of view: calvarian bone as well as upper and lower jaws exhibit the same embryonic origin i.e. intramembranous ossification. However, calvaria is morphologically characterized by two thin cortical layers and a void left in the middle. Contrarily, bone blocks taken from the ramus is essentially cortical. It is well known that the ISQ is a reflection of bone contact at the middle shaft of the implant.
