Please guide me to convert cellulose fibers into powdered cellulose as I cant use it with its fibrous state, I have Cellulose nanocrystals as fibers I use some solvent systems to make it accessed by reactants but I thought it will be easy to carry out chemical modification if powder cellulose is obtained

Powdered cellulose is made by cooking raw plant fiber in various chemicals to separate the cellulose, and then purified. Modified versions go through extra processing, such as exposing them to acid to further break down the fiber.
The way to produce microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) from native cellulose
material or pulp by acid hydrolysis has been known already for over 50 years.
MCC is purified partly depolymerised cellulose prepared by treating -cellulose,
obtained as a pulp from fibrous plant material, with mineral acid. In the process of acid hydrolysis, the non crystalline region is preferentially hydrolysed, so the cellulose crystals are released. In an initial stage of the hydrolysis, the degree of polymerisation (DP) of cellulose decreases dramatically, but it approaches to a constant DP value, which is known as the leveling-off degree of polymerisation (LODP). In the case of using wood pulp as a precursor of microcrystalline cellulose, the LODP ranges from 200-300.

While subjecting to acid hydrolysis or alkaline degradation processes in reduction of cellulose chain the requested degree of polymerization is achieved. The method of invention describes a possibility of adjustment of raw materials by alkaline mediums actuation. The powdered cellulose obtained has many industrial applications - wide scale of using in construction chemistry, petrochemical and food industry.

c) contacting said washed alkali hydrolyzed pulp with an acid hydrolysis agent at a temperature of least about 80° C. and at an acid hydrolysis agent concentration ranging from about 25 to about 75 weight percent based on the weight of said washed alkali hydrolyzed pulp to produce an acid hydrolyzed pulp; and
d) washing said aid hydrolyzed pulp to remove excess said hydrolysis agent and recovering a washed acid hydrolyzed pulp comprising microcrystalline cellulose. Link shown below:
