The post-sulfonation is one of the key methods to create Bronsted acid sites by insertion of sulfonic acid groups to the catalyst's surface.

Sulfonated crosslinked polystyrene-exhibits lower thermal stabililty profiles than the parent one.

My question is why the sulfonation causes the fast reaching to the onset of degradation, hence the lower thermal stability.
