What method to produce second generation bio-ethanol is most commercially viable?

We have seen a shift away from enzymatic saccharification towards hydrolysis in the recent years of second generation bio-ethanol literature. Pyrolysis can also produce sugars which can be made fermentable. Which route will come to fruition in the coming years as more bio-ethanol production is required to bridge the gap towards sustainable transport?
