Iridology (also known as iridodiagnosis or iridiagnosis) is an alternative medicine technique whose proponents claim that patterns, colors, and other characteristics of the iris can be examined to determine information about a patient's systemic health.
Now I want to know what medical devices can be used for this process so we can save photos and process them?
An iridoscope?
They have digitial iridoscopes ( iris-scopes, etc. ) which are basically a small webcam with a ring lamp as would be used for macro photography. You plug them into your phone or laptop and you are good to go.
Some of these present as a generic USB camera so later versions of Android support direct attachment of some of these devices, which makes them suitable for field use.
They are also suitable for computer vision work with other small objects - which is my interest in them.
There are usually a few models to choose from on eBay and, of course, actual medical equipment makers.
Having practiced Physical Iridology (as differentiated from Personality Iridology) for over 46 years as a Traditional Naturopath, I have had some considerable experience in Eyology imaging.
Everything from a simple pocket loop magnifier and hand-held LED light to a slitlamp have been and continue to be used by Eyologists.
Most often, however, a common DSLR camera is used for imaging and recording iris (and sclera--as part of Eyology) fotos. Various added hand-held or camera-attached LED and other lighting helps illuminate the field (anterior segment eye area) prior to clicking the camera shutter. Such lighting can be simply attached to the front of the camera lens or it can be made of variously sophisticated camera-attached arrangements.
We at Grand Medicine, and several other groups, we have put together a number of these foto-saving Eyology imaging devices, some as tripod-attached and some as table models. Email me at [email protected] for fotos of such models.
BTW, I take the opportunity to point out that peering into the eyes as a means of health evaluation (so-called "Iridology" and "Sclerology"--now "Eyology") has been around for untold thousands of years as part of our oldest form of medicine. Rockefeller-Big Pharma medicine is the newcomer, the "alternative" form!
