I tried synthesizing 3-acetyl-8-methoxycoumarin and obtained a compound with melting point range of 206-210 degrees. In the literature, melting point ranges from 171-172 degrees.

I further characterized my compound using FTIR. The peak that I got is not exactly the same with the literature but it's within the range.

So I wonder, since the melting point that I have obtained is higher than the literature's, is my compound can be considered pure?

If it is, what may have caused the melting point to increase other than impurities?
