What is hapiness? If happiness is to be in a nice comfort zone, then to me it makes me happy to carry out my investigations because I have fun not work!!!
Happiness is very subjective term and mean variety of things to variety of people, however according to me the ultimate key to happiness is contentment. If the person is contented and appreciate what he/she has then there is no one happier than that individual.
As I feel, the level of happiness depends on a number of internal as well as external factors to a person. Internal factors involve the knowledge and attitudes a particular person has. These are shaped by a number of external factors such as family background, the society, the culture, the level of education, employment, income and wealth etc.
For instance, think of a newly passed out graduate coming from a poor family. He will be satisfied when he buys his very first car notwithstanding its brand. But the story will be different in the case of a person coming from a rich, educated family. To be happy, he may want a better, branded car.
As Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory says, for a person to make happy, his/her current level in the hierarchy must be identified. Someone will be happy whenever he/she is provided with what is needed to satisfy the next level of needs in the hierarchy.
As Lord Buddha preaches, a person may be happy at a certain moment but he will never contend with what he/she has. He/she will again want something better than what they have now. Hope this will add something.
