Good day, Mr. Kenneth! :) Many studies have been shown about fungi accumulating heavy metals other than iron such as lead, cadmium, nickel, hexavalent chromium, etc. It goes the same with plants. :) 

For example, in one study by Adenipekun et al. (2011), they used the white-rot fungus (wood-decaying fungus known for their strong lignin-degrading enzymes) Pleurotus pulmonarius (Quelet, 1872) in treating battery (in Sagamu) and cement dump sites (in Ogunpa) near a place in Nigeria and found the cement dump-sites to have a 98-99% reduction in copper and manganese. There was also a study by Elekes et al. (2010) on the use of macrofungi Tapinella atrotomentosa (Sutara, 1992), Hypholoma fasciculare (Kummer, 1871), and Paxillus involutus (Fries, 1838) to accumulate heavy metals such as tin, zinc, etc. And, through X-ray fluorescence analyzers, they were able to determine that there was heavy metal accumulation due to high concentrations of zinc and tin within their pileus (or the umbrella-shaped fruiting body of the fungus). For plants on the other hand, I can only give one. There was a 2007 study by Paz-Alberto et al. wherein they found best phytoextraction of lead by vetivergrass (Vetiveria zizanoides, Linnaeus) compared to cogon grass and carabao grass. Well, this was phytoextraction, but then for it to be extracted, it must be accumulated first right? So there, I guess that's just one example for the plants. I just want to have a general knowledge (but if it would be deeper then better hahaha) about the difference in bioremediation processes (by virtue of accumulation) between fungi and plantae? Like does one have an advantage over the other? Is the other more flexible than the other (in terms of handling heavy metals in the soil)?

Thank you so much for these information, Dr. Kenneth! :) Biomineralization is a new term for me, and thank you for getting my group interested in research about this process. "To establish mineralization would require X-ray or electron diffraction" Yes! In fact, Dr. Kenneth, we would use X-ray fluorescence analyzers and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to qualitatively and quantitatively assess mineralization by these fungi. :) 

I am not entirely sure about the difference between bioremediation using plants and by means of fungi. But I do know about the difference between plant metabolism and fungal metabolism....plants absorb the nutrients and assimilate them into their cells or metabolize/break them down for energy. For fungi, there is the release of extracellular enzymes into their environment, to hydrolyse/break down the nutrients into simpler substances which can then be absorbed through their cell walls. Perhaps, this could be the point of reference

"the release of extracellular enzymes into their environment" I see!!! :) Thank you so much for this direct answer. :) I'd research more intensively into these enzymes of fungi. So far, I know a lignin-degrading enzyme by white-rot fungi; laccase. Thank you, Ma'am Becky! :)
