Although there have been many attempts to identify many qualities and characteristics of great scholars, there is no individual that embodies them all.
In general, we may say that the characteristics put by Kamal, "knowledge, wisdom, experience, fairness and good manner" , are the most important characteristics.
I think that a good scholar is defined or measured by his/her expertise of the subject of interest regardless hes/her academic, professional and/or social background.

I don´t totally agree. A scholar is a learning human. How could this person already have wisdom, experience? Learning is achieving those features.

Well, We are giving definition from research or academic point of view. A true scholar is not confined to labs or academics only, His or Her presence can be realized at any place or in any discipline. He or She has ability to influence the people of any degree positively, from ordinary to prestigious institutions.
And of course He or She is opened to life...
I think a good scholar is someone who is committed, honest, generous, knowledgeable in his or her main thrust areas of interest and specialties, humble, enthusiastic and voracious in learning and patient. All the characteristics mentioned here are for ideal scholars that is somewhat difficult to find all in one, but the more the merrier and the better. I wish all for all.
S/he must be devoted to the pursuit of knowledge by reading in an extensive manner. The memory of a great scholar is usually well-trained. The scholars, which I admired, usually have systematic coherent method of thinking "ideas" & talking "expressing ideas". An excellent scholar's notes of things around are usually more tidy & organized than what we may envisage.
Those who admit what they know is much less than what they think they do. Be humble!

Many good definitions are already written above. I would add, that great scholar is person who has constant curiosity about things and is learnig to the end of her/his life. Besides s/he can easily and with elegance share own findings.

- is highly committed
- is Intelligent (including academic ability, intellect, brightness)

Who does not get tired; hard work in research laboratories.
Published for science and knowledge, not to upgrade or promotion.

A good scholar applies a systematic approach in assessing situations. In addition to that, I think, that a scholar should be intelligent, honest, initiative, and persistent.
A great scholar should be creative and beneficial not only for his/herself but also for her/his society. Also, sense of team working and share valued findings with other colleagues would be necessary options.

There is one single quality, in my opinion, that is the touchstone of great scholarship - HUMILITY.
We have a saying in my native tongue, Tamil: "Nirai kudam talumbadu" - a pitcher that is full makes no noise when carried on the head. A half filled pitcher on the other hand makes nothing but noise showing how empty it is.
As for other qualities, we already have substantial contributions.

I´m scared by reading your little 11% students with self-esteem. If your statement is true (I believe it), the ideal teacher must make high and strenuous efforts to build up the mindset of the young learners. I can´t imagine, how to learn and live with permanent destroying and paralysing self-doubts. I´m not arguing for the pretentious, arrogant bumbles.
