Power converters for rural electrification comes on all shapes and sizes. However, in the OwnPower project we seek to develop converters which are multi-functional and multi-tier.
If you could wish for a power converter that could take care of all of your field problems, which functions would you like this converter to have?
(DC/DC, DC/AC, step-up, step-down, isolation, high-power, etc...)
When I worked for off grid microhydros, it used to use ballast load to balance the generation load balance and electronic load controller to control it.
There was always problem with the load controller and I think more efficient technologies can be used in the place of ballast load to maintain power balance.
Rural electrification is a wide range of things needed to consider , so depending on this you should add the functionality that satisfy your needs the most important is the motor loads if the rural area have agricultural loads that needs high reactive power so all functionality must considered
