I notice that the plants in our temperature controlled room were having problems. It looks like pest attack on the rice panicles. Does anyone know what pest this is? and what type of pesticide that i can use?
I would suggest you to provide more info. Can you observe the black symptomps only outside the rice grains or inside too? What is the consisitance of it?
Furthermore, which condition are you working with? Do you have some reference material?
Have you noticed any insects in your controlled environment? Do you have coloured traps? Would it be possible to be a fungus?
Please provide further information/picture so we could all help you to figure out what is the disease you are having.
From the picture, it appears the black staff is the sooty which is the fungus which is commonly associated with the insect pest, aphids. If they are aphids, you need an aphicide/aphidecide to control.
There are also leaf hoppers that would make a sooty mold. I would try to look under a lens, as well as shake a few plants over blank paper and see if you find any insects. There is a slide show on Google: https://www.slideshare.net/agriyouthnepal/insect-pest-of-rice
There is need to identify the pest. Pick samples of the insect pests and take them to entomologist or better still to insect taxonomists for identification and consult field or Agriculture Entomologists or Stored produce Entomologist for further counselling.
