Hi, If you want to test that bacteria produce toxin the biological assay will be fine, but if you want to know what kind of toxin you should use other method.
As is known bacteria toxin is protein so you can use gel electrophorases technique and by know the molecular weight of the toxin and compared with marker you can know kind of toxin is there.

I have found some old methods described for water toxic content using Tetrahymena pyriformis, Microtox, Daphnia magna, Pimephales promelas, and ciliate protozoan, Spirostomum ambiguum, as a bioindicators:
