The ohmic contact is always in equilibrium. So the p -type material will only support the potential difference between its two contact where one contact will be at zero potential and the other at the applied voltage. A potential gradient is formed across the material. The conduction band and the valence band will be parallel and inclined in parallel with the macroscopic potential distribution.
