Bioplastics are plastics made from renewable natural sources such as starch, sugar, vegetable oils, or food waste, instead of petroleum-based materials. They are promoted as a more sustainable alternative to conventional plastics.
Bioplastics are a positive step toward reducing pollution, but not a complete solution. A broader approach is needed, including reducing overall plastic use and improving recycling systems.
It is not obvious bioplastics are of any value. Most plastic ends up in landfill where biological activity is very very limited and bioplastic is not metabolized. Forget recycling it's been attempted for decades and has had very little success.
