Reading about the subject to be studied in different books and resources.

Trying to apply what's being studied even if it's in imaginary situations.

Summarising and paraphrasing.

Collect references in the same subject. Read it and write notes. summarise the problems. solve it theoretically or in experimental work.

There is no specific rules ,methods,& technique for the effective study as it depend only on the student ,his Caliber ,& learning with his practice which at the outset he should be self conscious & should be aware of his interest ,zeal . He must find out his interest & motive of his study life which his career progress for which he must move a systematic planning approach for his study .

With this after carrying out his program in the said systematic mode , he should carry out his own introspection & find out both his positive line of action & if he has observed any witness in his plan he should immediately take remedial measures without any loss of time so that his progress may not come in the way of his career ,progressive line .

Depends on the nature of the subject being studied, subjects that need memorizing things I read it loud for few times, subjects that need different skills such as mathematics, I try to solve as many examples as possible...

This is a very good question. In addition to the helpful answers already given, there is a bit more to add.

It helps to approach the study of a topic with a question in mind. And with a question, you arm yourself with keywords that can be used to search for related works (papers and books). Once a related paper or book is found, the issue then is what papers or books are the most helpful in answering a question.

For example:

In addition to sample solutions, proofs of theorems greatly help unlock the essentials of a topic. And there is the added benefit of detailed drawings that some authors take the time to supply along with theorems and proofs.
