Students need to double check their assignments for any minor plagiarism that might have happened in their literature. Do you know of any free website that checks for plagiarism suitable for graduate students?
We are also using turnitin [ Http://www.turnitin.com/ ] for the mandatory plagiarism check, that is applied for each article, coming for our Management research journal [Parikalpana: KIIT Journal of Management; copies available at: http://www.ksom.ac.in/resources/kiit-journal-of-management/ ].
However, each software has its limitations (though limited); where the editor has to apply the common sense (as rightly mentioned by: Hephzber Obiorah ).
There are many online services that check plagiarism. I had delivered a workshop on plagiarism awareness and different ways to overcome plagiarism in academic writings. Some of the sites that help identify plagiarism are given below. But I prefer to check with at-least two as sometimes common sentences are judged as plagiarized.
Dear Mosavi, Whilst there is software to help check for plagiarism, I think the most important thing to imbue in students is a strong sense of self discipline and academic rigour. One of the potential problems with some software is that if the student repeatedly submits his/her work to these sites, because it has already been added in an earlier draft, then the later draft is regarded as (self) plagiarised. That being said, Turnitin and cross ref are quite good sites. Hope this helps
We used to use Turnitin. Recently, BlackBoard (our learning platform), has incorporated a system for checking for plagiarism so we recently stopped using Turnit in.
As the question is about free ways of checking for plagiarism my answer is simple: Google.
When the quality of writing changes or when uncited information appears that could not have been known without using sources, I like to copy a string into Google between inverted commas. If there are too many hits, lengthen the string.
This simple use of Google sometimes out performs Turnitin in helping me find a source.
Not sure, any website that checks for plagiarism for free if you manage to get it, pls share with us, coz at the moment I'm a PhD student in University technology Malaysia
