Theology is the scientific approach towards religion and faith. The difference between theology and religious studies is the insider/outsider perspective. Theology is generally practiced by people who are religious themselves.
Most religions adhere to a moral code. F.i. the 10 comandments in Judaism/Christianity. Ethics are therefore an important aspect of theology and religious studies. How do Muslims view abortion for example? Is this morally good or evil? Why? Are there nuances to ber made? What does scripture say? Or important Muslim leaders/academics? Etc.
By doing some literature review, you will find countless good examples of theological (ethics) research.
