With the HPLC with detector at fixed wavelength it si possible to determine their concentration in complex matrices (i.e. plants, soils, waters) and their persistence. With HPLC-DAD detector it is possible to follow the formation of transformation products in the same matrices.
Use of a DAD is mandatory if you wish to develop methods. It allows you to "see" the spectral differences in each of the compounds (assuming they have a chromaphore). Sometimes peaks switch retention time position or co-elute. A DAD allows you to monitor these changes.
