Hi everyone,

Generally, in order to determine the allowable capacity of pile foundations, the pile is loaded laterally to an ultimate condition which is between 10-30% of the diameter of pile and appropriate FOS is applied.

When we do FEM analysis, we need to get an asymptotic behaviour of load-displacement curve, which is truly not obtained in all the cases. Sometimes the load deformation curve goes on increasing instead of a continuous deformation under constant load.

For large diameter piles or caissons (e.g. 9-12 m dia.), lateral load corresponding to what percentage of diameter should be considered as ultimate condition, if this asymptotic case is not observed.

Is there any reference related to that. Kindly suggest..

Thanks in advance
