I carry out the experiment in the growing chamber with crops and weeds. I want to find the best time to assess phenolics content in these plants following biostimulants application. I'm using one biostimulant containg extract of Ecklonia maxima and another containing fulvic and humic acids.
Dear Renata Make your treatment first thing in the morning, take a baseline phenolic content, take another reading at 4 hours near mid day, and another at end of work day 8 hours, take another at 1 day 24 hours, another at 48 hours and the final at 96 hours. Renata, your question is very good. Paul has already made some interesting observations as usual and desrve worth implemention . I can share my experiences about phenolics in citrus, how it affected the post-harvest shelf life of fruits. Apart from identifying the standard time of evaluation of phenolics , probably it is more important to see what is the phenolics content in the harvested edible parts, that will have far reaching implications on the shelf life of the edible plant parts. So , i would suggest , let us link your analysis on phenolics with physiological maturity of the crop ( Annual or perennial ) coinciding with the time of crop harvest. Such procedural changes will give you more value added information.
