Add 20-fold excess methacrylic anhydride to 1% (by weight) solution of HA in deionized water (pH 8.0 by 5N NaOH). React on ice 24 hrs. Dialyze against deionized water (tubing 5-8kDa cutoff) for 48+ hrs, lyophilize.
