What is the type of the study that study a diagnostic tool such as CT , US and assess the accuracy , sensitivity and specificity . Would it be Cross sectional or observational
Dear dr Ahmed .. In picture 2 the types of study designs that said : observational could be descriptive or analytic. And you put in consideration that Cross sectional survey or cross sectional study could be descriptive purpose or analytic purpose. So if the samples are classified after data collection (after screening test for those samples) at one point of time and I mean here to measure point prevalence , so the answer may be cross sectional study or survey according to is it individual based or population based. Screening test calculated by Medcalc software.
The design is certainly observational (no intervention is involved!). But that is a much too broad a term to properly characterize the study. 'Consecutive clinical sample' fits the design (if consecutive, clearly!), and add '(diagnostic) test evaluation' to also characterize the aim of the study.
But why do you need a design label? Isn't that thus a straightjacket imposed by poor epi. teachers? Look, you have a naturally appropriate design, and you describe what you do: let others put a label on the design if they like.
In my opinion, if it is a retrospective study then it could be observational (descriptive) but if you are doing the imaging prospectively then it is cross sectional study.
