Maybe the first step is to get a prior consent from the community or communities that you are working with or where you will be collecting the data from. This is to ensure the local communities will benefit from your research expecially when you have some promising or interesting new findings.

Not that I'm aware of. Since it would be an ethnobotanical survey, any survey would likely be tailored to the culture, and include input from members of the culture of interest.
