I carried out XRD analysis on some shale samples and I observed gypsum (up to 18%), jarosite (up to 10%) and minor amount of pyrite in the samples analyzed.
Is sulfide (pyrite?) reoxidation in anaerobic environment responsible for the formation of gypsum and jarosite?
Note: Gas bubbles from an abandoned bitumen well observed in the study area.

Hello,
from what do you deduce the anaerobic environment? Jarosite and gypsum are very common weathering products of pyrite in shales. Oxygen dissolved in water is sufficient to oxidize pyrite.
