As we know by conducting socio-economic surveys, we gets a lot of data about the social, political and economic aspects of a place. This data helps us in visualizing the current scenario and consequences of our decision. In this respect I would like to know what are the essential questions that one can formulate in respect to hydrology/water resource concern.
Any sample questions list if any one can pass, that will be great for me.

The questionnaire is prepared based on the objective of the study or project. According to me the researcher is the best person to decide on the type of questions. Some water related questions can be:
Source of water - well/river/public tap, etc
Water usage purpose - domestic/irrigation/etc.
Toilet type - Leach pit/ Septic tank (possibility of bacteriological
contamination to nearby water sources).
Waste disposal mechanism.
Occurrence of Water borne diseases (through Health dept.)
Peoples water related problems.
People's expectations on the improvement of water supply.
Identifying and understanding water laws and regulations, court rulings, etc. Who has rights to water (surface and groundwater) and to allocate or control its use? Is there a legal permit system, or landowner riparian rights to use water?
Water and associated data available to understand water available (ie, rainfall, streamflow, groundwater wells, quality of waters, geology, aquifers, etc.)
What are the water needs and demands? Identify existing and expected areas where demands would exceed supplies. Can water storage, conservation or recycling help? Who would fund activities or what adjustments are needed so supply and demand are more consistent?
Watershed management to address needs relative to water quantity, quality and as well as uses of land and waters for goods and services.
If not presently, having an agency with appropriate professionals to help compile water cycle, geology, soil, land use, stream morphology, hydrological modifications, water uses, laws, regulations, BMPs, etc. would be helpful in water planning and assessing information so informed decisions can be made.
Thanks you all for constructive views and suggestions but still looking for critical view on how can frame out policies for water conservation and enhancement through this survey. Since this survey is being in rural community who are not much aware.
Policy framework can be done only after analysing the survey data and understanding the problem and prospects of water conservation and management. Interaction with the public is very important as the policy which will be prepared should be acceptable and convincing to the rural population, otherwise it will not be sustainable.
Yes rural people are not aware of the critical situation of the water resources, and this is where we have to educate and convince them about the importance of water conservation. Rural population definitely appreciate if we involve them at the level of initial survey itself and readily extend their co-operation in all our field activities.
