Hello, the answer depends upon the age of the person obtaining the Post-Doc position. A younger learner has more time, and may wish to study the subject further. An older learner may not even be eligible for a Post-Doc opening. I have known several people who did Post-Doc work, and they were affiliated with very prestigious universities. The universities where they were accepted into Post-Doc were more prestigious than where they graduated with their PhD degree. So, for some people, the move to Post-Doc is a step up in the world.
