Moment-resisting frames are more flexible than the shear wall; don't you think this is one of the reasons for the difference in the amount of allowable drift in these two systems?

Also, drift computations include the fundamental period, scaling modal drift obtained from modal response spectrum analysis, the seismic design base shear, torsional irregularities in structures, and the significance of P-delta effects.

Shear walls tend to be more efficient to limit storey drift - you can perhaps not see the bulk of material on your model - but depending on the type of wall system the programme would assume it spans the full width and height. Moment-resisting frames rely on beam-column interaction (joint) hence their capacity to limit lateral displacement will always be less than that of the walls.

There is no need to find the complicated answers to your question. Everything is very simple; because under the same seismic impact the moment resisting frame being more flexible structure in comparison with the shear wall frame will definitely have the bigger drift.

The simple answer would be the flexibility that these two structural systems provide to resist the lateral load. Moment Resisting frames are more flexible, less stiff, than the structural system with shear walls. The more flexible is the structure, the more will be the drift.

More to the explanation, if the moment resisting framed structural system is more flexible, which exceeds the displacement that is allowed by the building codes, then we can go for shear wall system by addition shear walls along the perimeter of the building/structure.
