In my lab, I have 62.5/125um multimode and also 50/125um with orange jacket. I want to do splicing and I have to measure reflectance at the joint. For that, I need to be clear on the refractive index involved.
The refractive index of the core may vary in different productions. You need to know the numerical aperture (NA) of the fiber. Therefore, the relative refractive index between core and cladding is required to calculate the output NA. If you want to be accurate in your experiment, it is better ask the manufacturer of the fiber being used in your setup.
