What is the recommended etching time range for dentin bonding?
The etching time depends strongly on the product itself, and the type and concentration of the etching agent. Although 33-37% phosphoric acid is most widely used, citric acid can also be used. The idea is to have a longer etching time for a lower concentration acid so as to be able to control the procedure. Further, the extent of etching that is needed with a certain product also depends on the resin/primer components. So in essence, do as the manufacturer suggests!

From an abstract we can conclude that the paper you recommended is pretty useless. All its findings we can summarize as “longer etching – more mineral dissolved; overetching is not good”. Nothing new and nothing really interesting.
It depends on the type of dentin and also the etch-and-rinse adhesive system. As it is very difficult to determine the degree of mineralization of dentin, I believe that the time of 10 seconds (with 35-37% phosphoric acid) is clinically acceptable for most adhesive systems currently available.
