1. It is assumed that children in a disaster-risk community are able to manifest resiliency as long as there is a successful interaction between the adversity they experienced and their protective factors.

He has found that people react to adversity in one of three ways - negatively, positively and neutrally - those who react positively are more resilient - they bounce back and return to normal faster.
Psychologically speaking, based on the psychological rather than social, ethical or other reality, reactions to adversity can vary enormously from individual to individual depending on a variety of different variables. These include the following:
- Personal: history, psychological characteristics, coping mechanisms, strengths/weaknesses, status, education
- Relational – supporting systems (‘social capital’): family (nuclear and extended), community (local as well as wider, international)
- Gender
- Power position: degrees of helplessness and humiliation
- Circumstances of the actual devastating events: predictability, isolation, duration, lasting effects
- Meaning given to the events and the experience of these events: political, religious, ideological
- Hope or the lack of hope

I'm aware of a parallel body of work into reciprocal effects between risk and resilience if that might be of use?
Professor Andrew Martin has done quite a bit of work linking risk to his construct of "psychological buoyancy" (ability to bounce-back, a psychological protective factor). Here's a paper that we wrote together looking at reciprocal effects:
