Hi everyone,

I'm modeling a carbonate reservoir compaction due to production using Abaqus software.

The model includes one production well and is carried out in two steps of the geostatic step and Production step (50 years).

A linear pore pressure (Pp) gradient is applied from top to bottom of the model (as boundary condition).

The Pp shows an abrupt increase (about 10 MPa) at the geostatic step and then keeps decreasing to the end of the simulation (attached figure). I also added a consolidation step after the geostatic step, but the results remained the same.

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me the reason of this abrupt increase in Pp and how to avoid it.

Best regards,

Majid
