Potassium metal is mentioned as a stabiliser for Prevulcanised rubber latex along with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Does the skipping of adding stabiliser affect formation of Rubber matrix? Are there any other alternatves than potassium metal to serve the same purpose ?
Hi Pavan Raja Gopal Peddinti Bhattaru, are you absolutely certain that your reference means potassium metal? in view of the very high reactivity of metallic potassium it seems highly unlikely to me that potassium metal has a stabilizing effect on rubber materials. I'm not an expert in this particular field, but I assume that the authors mean potassium lauryl sulfate. 😳
Hi sir Frank T. Edelmann , thanks for your reply. Actually it was mentioned to add 0.4g of potassium and 0.2g of sodium lauryl sulfate for 100g of rubber latex in the sources. Does they serve the purpose of potassium lauryl sulfate?
Good morning, to me the question still remains if the authors really mean potassium metal. I suggest that you carefully check the Experimental Section and see which starting materials were obtained from commercial sources. To me, a mixture of potassium lauryl sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate would make more sense as metallic potassium is really too dangerous for such applications.
They mentioned sodium lauryl sulfate and potassium in the experimntal section, potassium is highly dangerous, so we are searching for an alternative.
