I have been in the camp that believed bison were not part of the natural fauna in the desert grasslands. Individual bones found scattered throughout were as a result of trade among indigenous peoples.

Recently, an individual on one of my nature walks that I guide along the Upper San Pedro River stated she was informed that more recent research has determined they were part of the grasslands in SE Arizona. However, she could not provide me with the research or researchers' name(s).
