I am using functional carbon nitride as the photocatalyst and I found the color in the liquid is blue. Does it mean holes existed in the system which has not to be consumed by sacrificial reagent?

This is very little information to provide an answer ? What is the liquid ? pure water or some other mixture ? Is there any sacrificial agent in the mixture ? Is light exposure involved? What is the functionalization on C3N4, and which carbon nitride are you using ?

I am using Cyanamide surface-functionalized melon-type carbon nitride (NCN CNx) which is yellow and the solvent is water, sacrificial agent is Triethanolamine (TOEA). While light exposure involved, the color of the liquid changed to blue. I guess it is a common phenomenon during photoreforming :) But how to explain?

Hi Xinxing wu this is an interesting observation. Normally, a color change to blue would indicate a metal-TEOA complex formation (especially Cu), which is impossible in your case as the system is entirely metal free. What concentration of TEOA are you using ? Is the observation perfectly reproducible ?
