I know that in Judeo-Christian cultures wheat means bread, life and other elements. However, in Japan does wheat have any cultural significance to be highlighted? My question occurs precisely for two reasons, the first is the presence of wheat in the symbol of the flag of the Japanese Communist Party. I believe that this is due to the relationship of the communist ideals of "Bread, peace and land", but I have not found sources that validate this idea. Does anyone know about this? In addition, Keiji Nakazawa's "Barefoot Gen" manga uses wheat as a symbol that represents the strength and rebirth of the Japanese people after the atomic bomb. However, aside from the obvious, does wheat have any specific meaning (imagery speaking) for Japanese culture? Would anyone have a book or text that addresses this issue? Any opinions or arguments on the topic?
