I have shown by experiments that source separation and reverse logistics in Brazil can take care of 67% of all household waste. This means private initiatives without need for municipal intervention. As this is the maximum I have achieved, I am curious to know whether anybody anywhere has done better and how.

Recently we have published an interesting article on the emerging concept of waste based biorefinery in Applied Energy.
We have proposed to divert about 88% of municipal solid waste through waste biorefinery by using integrated waste-to-energy technologies such as anaerobic digestion (AD), transesterification, pyrolysis and refuse derived fuel (RDF).

Are you proposing the biorefinery, or is it operating and showing results? Are you proposing the recycle of the remaining 22%, or is it in operation?

We have just proposed the concept of biorefinery in Saudi Arabia with initial feasibility study. Yes, there will be gaps, weaknesses and questionable areas in our work and we are open to critics and feedback to further improve our work. Yes, the remaining 12% is proposed for recycling in our case.
