Are you talking maternal or fetal?

Fetal include hydrops - aneuploidy, cardiac failure, immune disease and fetal anaemia, non-immune including responses to infection , renal tract rupture (urinary ascites) , chylous ascites. Managements might include correction of fetal anaemia, aspiration of fluid, shunt placement, correction of fetal dysrythmia,

Maternal will be largely renal in origin or cardiac in origin although have had some cases associated with maternal malignancy also. Mirror syndrome in relation to fetal hydrops is rare but well reported. The management depends hugely on the aetiology.

In my experience,the first cause for maternal will be the pregnancy induced  hypertension or preeclampsia.Next is the malignant tumaor. finally others ,such as renal or cardiac in origin .We may consider other symptoms toghter.

In my experiance the postpartum Ascitis first rule out Anemia with Hypoprotenemia, preeclampsia and evaluation of the Cardiac, Renal cuses leading to ascitis should be done.any infective focus should be also rule out.Treatment should be given according to the cause.
